The AS VAL (Russian: Автомат Специальный Вал, Avtomat Special’nyj Val; English: Special Automatic Rifle), also has a code name “Shaft”, is a Soviet designed Assault Rifle featuring an integral sound supressor. It was added to the arsenal of the Soviet Army and the KGB since 1987. It chambered with the heavy subsonic 9 x 39mm SP-6 cartridge (high-performance armor piercing ammo), as well as the SP-5 round used by VSS Vintorez. It also share the same 10 or 20 round magazine with VSS and has a 70% piece commonality with VSS as well.
