The Colt Model 727, also known as the M16A2 Government Carbine is part of the AR-15 / M16 / M4 family of rifles. Before the introduction of the M4 carbine, the M16 and its different variants were the main fighting rifle of the United States Armed Forces since the Vietnam War, however the long barrel profile and the overall size of the M16 can be an issue to specialized or clandestine troops, because of this carbine versions of the M16 were introduced, commonly known only as either the CAR-15 (Colt Automatic Rifle-15) or the Colt Commando, many variants of short-barreled / carbine version of the M16 were released by Colt.
That being said, the VFC Colt M16A2 Carbine Airsoft Rifle is the third gas airsoft rifle that is not an M4 but a carbine variant of the M16, the Colt M733 and the Colt XM177E2 gas airsoft rifles came before this one, so what’s so special about this particular one? This one is based on the Colt Model 727, which has the following features: a 3rd generation buffer tube, giving it 4 adjustable stock positions, a short ribbed handguard, a Safe, Semi, Auto fire control setting, A2 style rear sights, a forward assist and a case deflector, but the most important bit is a M4 style barrel profile. Other than these features, this gas airsoft rifle also features full markings due to the fact that this rifle is a licensed airsoft replica, The attention to detail doesn’t end there as it has period correct, early styled deep engraved Colt markings on the receiver as well as on the bottom of the 30-round gas magazine that it comes with. This airsoft gun is a replica of an early cousin to the M4 rifle we are so familiar with now, the Model 727 was around during the Battle of Mogadishu, also known as the Black Hawk Down Incident, and was deployed by Delta Force troopers during the engagement.
Internally, as being produced by VFC it is no slouch as this bad boy runs on the tried and tested VFC V3 M4 / AR 15 gas system and it has an updated valve knocker system, a zinc bolt carrier, and of course as mentioned earlier, a VFC 30 round V3 gas magazine to feed the system. In simple terms, this rifle is ready to be fielded like any other VFC-made M4 / AR-15-styled gas airsoft rifles that came before it and it will perform superbly and you also would not have to worry about aftermarket parts or accessories as there is plenty to go for and it will not cost you an arm or a leg like the rifles DNA offers.
